Too Long

It’s been a long time since my last post. No excuses really, just not good at remembering to do this blog thing with everything else that’s going on.

On old employee passed away last week. He was a young man who had so much ahead of him. He was a great person and even though he has been away from NetDevil for a few years now it’s still sad to see someone so talented and so young leave this world before their time.

As a tribute I am posting a photo of the original Jumpgate box on the shelf next to Max Payne, Diablo II Expansion and Madden 2002. Really the art in that, our first game, was done by 3 guys. Myself, Scott Brayshaw and Craig Schalamon. Craig without you that game would not have shipped and we remember all the fun times along the way we had making our first video game.

Thanks

Warmonger Video

The Warmonger Video is complete and uploaded to the Warmonger site:
http://www.warmongergame.com/media.php?movies
NetDevil does not have a video editor/director so I had to edit the in game footage myself. I have no formal movie or editing schooling so I find this type of work very taxing and end up making guesses as to how to piece the clips together. Chris, the producer on the Warmonger project was very helpful in keeping me on track and together with his help and the advice of many others it turned out OK. However, Its time for NetDevil to get a full time talented video person ;)

Warmonger web page goes live

The game site for warmonger has gone live. I did all the artwork for this site. Obviously using the game art and some concept pieces created from some of the team. One of our new artists, Shawn Watson helped out with the flash parts, thanks Shawn. I'm a little old school these days when it comes to "them fancy new softwares". Also thanks to Scott Bounds our programmer for making it all happen.

Anyway its not the best site in the world but it does represent the visuals of the game reasonable well. So heres the link:

I also did a fair amount of the UI on this project with a little help from Brian Mullaney. I wish mmo's were as simple to design for, in terms of UI, as FPS games are. I'll post some screens of that stuff later.

Seems like this site is all warmonger these days I need to put up some more from the other projects.

Warmonger Concepts

I'm in the process of creating the designs for the Warmonger web page. Along with doing the webpage design I have to get screen shots, wallpapers etc created for the media/downloads section. Here are 2 concepts I painted when we were trying to figure out what Warmonger should look like:

Jumpgate Evolution

So I would like to show what the Netdevil teams are working on, especially some of the LEGO Universe project. But unfortunately this is all under wraps right now besides a few concept/pre-viz images.

So instead I'll show you some images from Jumpgate Evolution and Warmonger for now. I am very proud of the accomplishments these small teams have made on re vamping our original Jumpgate project and developing a new physics based fps.

Below is an image that can be found on the JE web page but in case you all don't want to follow the links I'll post one here.

Below is a screen grab from Warmonger; Downtown Destruction. One thing to note in this game that does not show well in screen shots; it’s a fully destructible environment with a lot of “real” physics built in i.e. dust, embers and cloth (flags blow in the wind and react to other geometry in the scene accordingly).
Along with procedural destruction (each explosion has physical debris that is different each time a wall is destroyed). This was a huge hurdle for all the team members involved, Art, Design and Code. Its also something that not many other companies have accomplished.
